What does Arbor Circle do?
We provide a variety of counseling services related to mental health, substance abuse, and family relationships.
How many people do you serve?
Arbor Circle serves more than 10,000 people annually with a variety of programs, including outpatient counseling services, in-home counseling and intervention, mentoring programs, a runaway shelter, and school-based services.
What is your mission?
Our mission is to transform the family cycle, bringing health and hope to individuals and to families. We provide counseling services that treat existing problems of substance abuse and mental illness. We also provide programs that teach new behaviors in support of healthy mental development for children and families.
How is Arbor Circle different than other counseling service organizations?
Arbor Circle believes that solutions to the problems of neglect, child abuse, substance abuse and mental illness must be developed in the context of the family setting, rather than solely at the individual level. We treat the existing situation, while helping families build a stronger foundation for the future.
Is there a need for these kinds of services in Kent County?
An increasing number of families have slid from “just making ends meet” down to outright poverty, in large part due to the poor economy. According to the 2004 census, 11.5% of Kent County families have incomes below the poverty line. Seventy percent of Arbor Circle clients earn less than $15,000 per year. These families are at the absolute bottom of the income scale. They are stretched to the financial breaking point, and then stretched even further by substance abuse and mental health issues. If it were not for Arbor Circle, they would have extremely limited access to the services and education that can make a real difference.
Why is substance use treatment so important?
Substance abuse contributes to a substantial portion of the problems facing area families. The Department of Community Health estimates that Kent County has over 98,000 residents needing substance use treatment; however there is not nearly enough capacity to meet that need.
Do you serve people of all ages?
Yes, we offer services for pregnant women, infants, children, youth, families and adults.
How do people pay for your services?
Our fee scale accepts Medicaid, Medicare and most forms of insurance. Some of our programs are offered at no cost to the recipient.
What is your service area?
We serve all of Kent County, and offer selected services in Ottawa and Newaygo County.
Are you accredited?
Yes, we are accredited by the Joint Commission, a nationally recognized accreditation body.
