Achieving your child’s full potential
Baby Scholars is an educational program designed to help young children achieve their full potential. Baby Scholars gives parents the tools they need to equip their children for kindergarten, and help their babies grow smarter!
How it works
Services for toddlers 20–36 months & Pre-School children age 3-5
Services are provided in the home, once a week for 10 weeks. See how fun games and silly songs will help your child learn how to follow directions, take turns, recognize sounds and use more words. Play and Learn Strategies (PALS) provide education and skill building techniques for parents and kids. Program coaches are trained in PALS, teaching strategies to support children’s social, emotional, cognitive and language development.
Programs for babies 5-19 months old
Other Baby Scholar programs include the infant program (for babies 5 to 19 months old). Services are provided in the home through the Strong Beginnings program.
Over 700 parents and children have been involved in the Baby Scholars programs! The program is based on the research of Susan Landry, a nationally recognized expert in parenting and early childhood education, and director of the Children’s Learning Institute at the University of Texas Health Science Center. The goal is to impact educational disparities and set children up to succeed, with the understanding that parents who are empowered can play a vital role in their child’s academic success.
Any parent of a child under 5 years of age who resides in Grand Rapids “Hope Zones” neighborhoods can receive free educational support to help their child be ready for kindergarten. Please click here to see informational maps of the Hope Zones.
