New Outpatient Facility at Arbor Circle

Steelcase Foundation's Help Boosts Arbor Circle's Fundraising Ability

A recent grant from the Steelcase Foundation has helped Arbor Circle to increase fundraising efforts for the last two years.

In December 2008, the Steelcase Foundation awarded Arbor Circle a $40,000 two year challenge grant.  The grant for $20,000 to be matched 1:1 in year one was successful and the agency is closing in on meeting the $20,000 goal in year 2.  The challenge specifically targets new donors and increased donation amounts from existing donors.

Circle Recovery Management Services

“I was in the Kent County Jail in 2007 for a short period”, says one of the Arbor Circle Recovery Management Services clients.  “I bonded out, but ended up committing an additional charge which brought me back to jail and into the Jail’s Sober Living Unit (SLU) run by Arbor Circle.  “I felt ashamed and guilty for having to come back to jail.”  She spent over 90 days in the SLU and invested in her recovery, participating in the program as well as facing family issues and starting to rebuild broken relationships. Upon release, she became involved with Arbor Circle’s Recovery Management program, receiving community-based recovery and transitional housing services.  “I am  going on 2 years sober,” she reports.  She has held a job for the past year, has become involved with a church and enjoys a much better relationship with her children and her mother and siblings.  She sees her Recovery Manager at least two to four times a month to assist her in her individual recovery and growth on her own personal journey.

Changing Times Create Growth

Just like the people we serve, Arbor Circle is in the midst of a journey toward resilience.  Despite being a large social service organization, our team is nimble and adaptive-the kinds of skills that challenging times like these demand.  We are actively engaged in identifying emerging community needs, advocating for new ways of assisting people, and bringing ideas and questions to our work.

Because of this, Arbor Circle has had the opportunity to launch an number of new programs to expand some existing services.  In the past few months, our team has grown by 37 in order to serve more than 1,580 new clients through our counseling, education and prevention services.

Each of our clients and team members represents an important opportunity.  They represent the chance to create a strong, therapeutic relationship...the kind of relationship that helps people discover their strengths and embark on a personal, powerful journey toward resilience.
